Skullcandy Riff Wireless Headphones

Skullcandy released the new wireless headphones called Riff in September 2018. TLR Technology decided to grab a pair and give them a test drive.
Out of the Box
Out of the box, there is no fancy packaging which is expected for the price you will pay for these. It’s actually in a plastic storage container inside the box. We went with the Blue/Sunset color. The Skullcandy Riff Wireless comes with a USB charging cable and user guide. They do not have the USB-c charging port. The Skullcandy Riff Wireless comes with a switch + or – to adjust volume as well as to change songs. It does feel flimsy and can easily be broken. The movement is very free-flowing.

The Specs

Skullcandy Riff wireless headphones are said to have a capacity of 12 hours battery life and have a 10-minute rapid charge. This 10-minute charge will give you two-hour playtime. I would highly recommend getting Skullcandy’s Stash Power Bank so you can rapidly charge on the go. The coolest color to us is the Pyscho Tropical. The Riff wireless headphones are made for everyday use. They are lightweight and come in four different colors. These colors are Blue/ Sunset, Black, White/Crimson, and Gray/Teal. Connection type is Bluetooth 4.1 technology. The sound pressure level is 98dB. The frequency response is 20Hz – 20KHz.
“With Riff Wireless we set out to design a headphone that combines premium acoustic technology with a rugged reliable design to give younger consumers a new type of wireless experience,” said Jason Hodell, CEO of Skullcandy.
The Sound
We tested out the sound quality playing a few songs from our Apple Music account. Stanley Clarke: Justice’s Groove sounds very nice. You can hear the distinctive sounds of each instrument in this song. Didn’t like the way Get Low by Dillon Francis & DJ snake sound in these. The bass did hit nicely but the other sounds were off. Different songs sound great, but others did not. Now what sounds good to us may sound poor to you and what sounds off to us may sound great to you. This is because we all hear music (or sounds) differently. Bass has always been a thing for Skullcandy and we like that feature very much. We also own the Skullcandy Hesh 2 which is a bad a** set of headphones. We’ve owned them for some years now and they are still performing as great as they did when we first purchased them.
Please also take in mind that the Skullcandy Riff wireless headphones sit on top of the ear and not over the ear. The sound will bleed because of this. The Skullcandy Riff wireless have plush ear cushions which feel like sleeping on a super soft marshmallow style pillow. Feels great.

How much for the Riff wireless?
The Skullcandy Riff wireless will cost you $49.99. That’s $50 for basic beginner wireless headphones. For that price, these a great and you’re getting your moneys’ worth.

Final thoughts…
Yes, I would recommend these if you are a newbie, someone who doesn’t need a whole lot of features, or a younger consumer.
